Solar Panel Repairs Across Surrey
Solar faults rarely announce themselves, so many Surrey systems lose output long before the owner spots a problem. Solar Panel Price helps homeowners across Surrey find solar repair specialists who can trace and fix faults, including systems they did not originally install.
A lot of systems across the county were installed during the Feed-in Tariff boom by firms no longer in business, so owners often need a new engineer to take the system on.
What Goes Wrong with Solar Panels?
- Burnt or corroded DC connectors between panels
- Water-damaged isolator switches
- Cracked, hot-spotting or delaminating panels
- Insulation faults causing inverter alarms
- Cables chewed by squirrels or damaged by nesting pigeons
- Storm damage to the mounting system
If the inverter shows an error or a blank screen, the fault may be the inverter itself, and an inverter replacement is the more likely fix.
The Fault-Finding Process
A good diagnosis begins with the inverter's fault history and generation records, then safely isolates the system and tests each string. Voltage, current and insulation resistance tests pinpoint which part of the system has failed, so the repair can be quoted accurately. Where the fault is on the roof, the access method has a big effect on cost.
How Much Do Solar Repairs Cost in Surrey?
| Repair | Typical price range |
|---|---|
| Diagnostic visit and testing | £150 – £300 |
| Isolator or AC-side repair, no roof access | £150 – £400 |
| Connector or cable repair with roof access | £300 – £700 |
| Panel replacement including scaffolding | £700 – £1,200+ |
Scaffolding is often the biggest single cost in a roof-level repair, so combining the repair with other roof work can save money.
Local Guidance in Surrey
Repairing existing solar equipment usually requires no planning consent. Listed buildings are the main exception if the repair changes the roof's appearance. For local planning advice, contact Surrey County Council. All electrical repair work should be carried out by a competent electrician and certified.
What to Ask Before Booking a Repair
- Will they work on systems fitted by other companies?
- How is the call-out charged?
- Can they source matching panels for older systems?
- How will they reach the roof?
- Will they issue an electrical certificate for the work?
Checking the Proposed Work
Fault-finding starts with safe isolation and a review of inverter logs and generation records. An engineer may then test strings, connectors, isolators and cabling, inspect panels and mounting from safe access, and explain whether a repair, component replacement or warranty claim is the sensible next step.
Written details make different proposals easier to compare before choosing a contractor.
Frequently Asked Questions
The answers below cover points homeowners often raise before requesting a quote.
Can you find someone to repair a system fitted by a company that has closed?
Yes. Many engineers in our network carry out fault-finding and repairs on systems installed by other companies, including those that are no longer trading.
How do I know if my solar panels are faulty?
Check your generation meter or monitoring app on a bright day. If generation has stopped or is far lower than in previous years, there is likely a fault somewhere in the system.
Are solar repairs covered by warranty?
Some faults may be covered by the manufacturer's product warranty or the original installer's workmanship guarantee. Check your handover documents before booking a paid repair.
