Compare Solar Panel Installers Across Surrey
More and more households in Surrey are putting their roofs to work with solar PV. Solar Panel Price helps you request up to four free quotes from independent solar installers based across Surrey, from a single short enquiry.
From terraced streets to detached rural properties, the process is the same: describe your roof and electricity use, installers get in touch to arrange a survey, and you decide which quote, if any, to accept.
How Much Can Solar Generate in Surrey?
A typical 4kW domestic array in the UK produces roughly 3,000–3,800kWh a year, with southern counties at the upper end and northern and western areas a little lower. For a Surrey home, roof direction, pitch and shading make a bigger difference than regional sunshine figures. A south-facing roof at around 30–40 degrees is ideal, although east and west-facing roofs spread generation across the morning and evening, which can suit many households.
Your installer should give you an MCS generation estimate for your specific roof, with any shading from nearby chimneys, trees or buildings taken into account. If one estimate is much higher than the others, ask how it was worked out.
What a Solar Installation Includes
- A site survey, roof check and system design
- Access equipment, usually scaffolding
- Solar panels, roof hooks and mounting rails
- The inverter and any optimisers
- AC and DC isolators, a generation meter and cabling
- Pigeon-proofing, if requested
- Network operator notification, MCS certificate and electrical certificate
How Much Do Solar Panels Cost in Surrey?
Prices in Surrey broadly follow national averages, though the final figure depends on the roof, access and the kit specified. As a guide:
| System | Typical price range |
|---|---|
| About 3kW (8 panels) | £4,500 – £6,000 |
| About 4–5kW (10–12 panels) | £6,000 – £8,500 |
| 6kW+ or split roof faces | £8,500 – £11,000+ |
| Adding a battery at the same time | +£3,000 – £6,000 |
Domestic solar currently benefits from a 0% VAT rate, so check each quote shows VAT consistently. For a fixed price, a survey is needed.
Solar Panels and Planning Rules in Surrey
Many household roof arrays can be installed without a planning application when local conditions are met. Extra consent may be needed for listed properties, conservation areas or ground-mounted arrays. For local planning questions, contact Surrey County Council.
Domestic electrical standards vary across the UK; in England and Wales, Part P applies to relevant work. Ask the installer who will certify the work and deal with the network operator.
Getting the Right Installer in Surrey
- An MCS certificate number or equivalent evidence for Smart Export Guarantee eligibility in Great Britain
- Membership of a consumer code such as RECC or HIES
- A protected deposit and insurance-backed guarantee
- Named equipment, not just a system size
- A clear generation forecast for your roof
A Useful Question for Your Specialist
For an installation quote, a specialist should check the roof covering and structure, measure shading, decide where the inverter and cable run will go, and confirm safe scaffold access. The proposal should then identify the panel layout, estimated annual output and any consumer unit work before a fixed price is agreed.
A clear written scope helps you compare what is included before choosing a contractor.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some practical answers to common questions about this work.
Do you cover all of Surrey?
Installers in our network cover towns and villages across Surrey. Enter your postcode on the form and we will look for specialists who work in your area.
How long does a solar panel installation take?
Most domestic installations take one to three days on site, with scaffolding usually going up a day or two before the panels are fitted.
Can solar panels be fitted to any roof?
Most pitched roofs in good condition are suitable, including slate, clay tile and concrete tile. Flat roofs and outbuildings can use angled frames. A survey will confirm whether the roof structure and condition are suitable.
