Clean and Bird-Proof Your Panels in Southampton, Hampshire
Streaky panels, bird droppings or pigeons nesting under the array are among the most common reasons Southampton homeowners look for a solar cleaner. One short enquiry can reach up to four local companies that clean and bird-proof solar arrays around Southampton, so you can compare prices without ringing round.
How Solar Panels Are Cleaned
Most professional cleaners use water-fed poles with soft brushes and purified water, so the panels dry without streaks or residue. Pressure washers and abrasive pads should never be used, as they can damage the anti-reflective coating and invalidate warranties. On three-storey homes or steep roofs, a cherry picker or roof access may be needed.
Stopping Birds Nesting Under the Array
Nesting pigeons are one of the biggest nuisances for solar owners. Their droppings foul the roof and gutters, and they can damage cabling. Bird mesh fitted around the array perimeter is the standard fix, using clips that attach to the panel frames rather than drilling. Nests in use cannot legally be disturbed, so the work may need to wait.
Solar Maintenance Costs in Southampton
Expect to pay around £100–£450 for cleaning and maintenance in Southampton. A straightforward pure-water clean of up to 12 panels from the ground is at the lower end, and bird-proofing with fouling removal costs the most.
What Affects the Price

Frequently Asked Questions
The answers below cover points homeowners often raise before requesting a quote.
How do I get solar panel cleaning quotes in Southampton?
Send one enquiry with your postcode, the number of panels and the height of the building. We can pass it to up to four cleaning companies covering Southampton.
Will cleaning my solar panels make a difference?
It can, particularly if panels are visibly dirty or fouled by birds. Compare your generation before and after the clean to see how much difference it makes on your roof.
Is bird mesh noticeable from the street?
Mesh is fitted tight to the edge of the panels and is usually black or dark grey, so it is fairly discreet from ground level on most roofs.
Can solar panels be cleaned in winter?
Yes, although many companies avoid frosty days. Cleaning in early spring ahead of the higher-generating months is a popular choice.
