Solar Inverter Replacement Across Lincolnshire
Of all the parts in a PV system, the inverter is the one most likely to need replacing. Through one enquiry, Lincolnshire households can compare up to four inverter replacement quotes from local solar specialists, whoever installed the original system.
Signs Your Inverter Is Failing
- A red light or fault code that will not clear
- No display and no generation, even in bright weather
- The inverter tripping off on hot afternoons
- Unusual noises or smells from the unit
- A model no longer supported by its manufacturer
Replacement Options for Lincolnshire Homes
A like-for-like string inverter is the simplest and cheapest option, which works well where the panels are not shaded. If you might add a battery, a hybrid inverter can run both. For partly shaded roofs, adding optimisers at the same time can recover lost output, although that means roof access.
The engineer must check that the new inverter matches the voltage and current of your panel strings, so a proper compatibility check is essential.
Solar Inverter Prices Across Lincolnshire
| Replacement | Typical cost |
|---|---|
| Like-for-like string inverter, up to 3.68kW | £800 – £1,200 |
| Larger or battery-ready string inverter | £1,200 – £1,700 |
| Hybrid inverter with new isolators and monitoring | £1,700 – £2,200+ |
These figures assume a straight swap in the same location. Moving the inverter, replacing roof isolators or adding optimisers costs more.
Feed-in Tariff, SEG and Local Guidance in Lincolnshire
If you receive Feed-in Tariff payments, tell your FiT supplier about the replacement, since increasing capacity can affect the tariff. The network operator should also be notified of the new equipment. An inverter replacement does not usually need planning consent, but general planning information is available from Lincolnshire County Council.
Questions to Ask About Your New Inverter
- Has the new model been checked against your panel strings?
- Who handles the grid and tariff paperwork?
- Is removal and recycling of the old unit included?
- What warranty comes with the new inverter?
- Will monitoring be set up on your Wi-Fi?
What to Ask Before Accepting a Quote
A replacement engineer should confirm the old inverter rating, panel string voltage, monitoring connections and any Feed-in Tariff records before choosing a compatible unit. The quote should include safe isolation, removal, electrical testing, commissioning and updated paperwork where needed.
Ask each firm to put the work and exclusions in writing before choosing a contractor.
Frequently Asked Questions
These short answers may help you prepare for an installer conversation.
How long does an inverter replacement take?
Most like-for-like inverter replacements are completed in half a day. Hybrid installations or jobs that include new isolators may take a little longer.
Can my inverter be repaired instead of replaced?
Occasionally, if the model is still supported and parts are available. For older out-of-warranty string inverters, replacement is usually more cost-effective than repair.
Will a new inverter increase my solar generation?
A modern inverter is often slightly more efficient than a decade-old model, and it restores full output if the old one was failing. It will not increase what the panels themselves can produce.
