Solar Battery Installation in East Kilbride, South Lanarkshire
If you have solar in East Kilbride but still buy most of your evening electricity from the grid, battery storage may be the next step. Solar Panel Price can pass your enquiry to up to four battery installers working in and around East Kilbride, each able to survey the property and give you a written quote.
How a Solar Battery Works
During the day, surplus solar that the house is not using charges the battery instead of flowing out to the grid. Once generation drops, the battery supplies the house before any power is drawn from the grid. On a time-of-use tariff, it can also top up overnight at a lower rate, helping it earn its keep in winter when solar output is low.
Retrofit or New System?
Plenty of batteries are added to panels that have been on the roof for a decade or more. An AC-coupled battery can sit beside the existing inverter, but if the old inverter is ageing, a hybrid swap can deal with both jobs at once.
What Battery Installers Will Need to Know
- A photo of the inverter's rating label
- The size of your solar array in kW
- A recent bill showing kWh used
- Where you would like the battery to go
- If emergency power is a priority
- Any plans for an electric car or heat pump

Most home battery installations in East Kilbride cost between £3,000 and £8,500, with capacity and the inverter arrangement making the biggest difference. Frequently Asked Questions
These short answers may help you prepare for an installer conversation.
How do I get solar battery quotes in East Kilbride?
Send one short enquiry with your postcode and details of your solar system. We can pass it to up to four installers covering East Kilbride, who may contact you to discuss your usage and arrange a survey.
What size battery should I get?
Most homes choose between 5kWh and 13.5kWh of usable capacity. The installer should size it around your evening and overnight usage rather than simply recommending the biggest model.
Can I charge my battery from the grid at night?
Yes, most modern batteries can be set to charge on a cheap overnight tariff, which keeps them useful in winter when solar generation is low.
Do I need solar panels to have a home battery?
No. A battery can be installed on its own and charged from the grid on an off-peak tariff, although most people pair it with solar panels to store their own generation.
